Prominent Ear Correction (Otoplasty)
Otoplasty is the surgery performed for surgical correction of deformed ears such as prominent ears, larger than normal ears, deficiencies and disorders in the auricle.
BEFORE & AFTER
Prominent Ear Correction (Otoplasty)
If your ears ‘stick/stand out’ excessively from the skull or there is a gap between your auricle and skull, then you have prominent ears. If necessary, permanent sutures are used to fold and shape the cartilage into the correct position. Closing the wound with sutures completes the process. Prominent ear correction (Otoplasty) is a surgical cosmetic procedure with a high success rate and high satisfaction rate among patients.
Prominent Ear Correction (Otoplasty) for All Ages
It is possible to have your ears surgically altered in order to change their form, position, or proportion and people from different age groups choose to have this surgery. Prominent ear correction (Otoplasty) can treat a congenital defect or a developmental impairment in the ear. As a result of injury, this surgery can also be done to correct misshaped ears. To achieve a more natural form, otoplasty brings the ears into balance with the rest of your face. Even slight malformations can have a significant impact on a person’s look and self-esteem. As a result of disfigured or enlarged ears, plastic surgery may be an option for you and your child.
Recovery After Prominent Ear Correction (Otoplasty)
The recovery period, which is an uncomplicated and fast procedure like prominent ear surgery, is usually few weeks. At the end of the treatment, the appearance of the big ear completely disappears and the client has ears that look natural and as they should be. Anyone who is not satisfied with the shape of their ear can have ear aesthetics. Large ears can be treated using a variety of prominent ear correction (Otoplasty) procedures to achieve natural and patient-pleasing results. We believe every person should be able to choose how and where they receive medical care, according to their preferences. We will give you the best treatment according the USA and European standards.
What Is Prominent Ear Correction – Otoplasty?
Otoplasty is the surgery performed for surgical correction of deformed ears such as prominent ears, larger than normal ears, deficiencies and disorders in the auricle. But I am going to give information in this page about Prominent Ear Correction.
What is right timing for this surgery?
It is generally performed to children in preschool age. Because at school age, prominent ears may be the subject of mockery among classmates, which can disrupt the child’s psychological state. If it is desired to be corrected, I strongly recommend doing it during the preschool period so that it does not encounter any psychological disorder.
Of course, if the timing that I suggested was hanged, there is no such thing as this surgery is not performed. My preschool term is just a recommended one, but of course I have patients who have done this even in adulthood.
Operation and Early period of after Operation
General anesthesia is preferred in young children and local anesthesia is preferred in adults. The operation takes an average of 1 to 2 hours depending on additional deformities needs to be corrected such as size, auricular problems etc.
Procedure is done through a cut is made at the back surface of the ear, in which the scar will be hidden. Cartilage reshaping and repositioning are made through that cut with the help of special kind of suture material. These suture materials will support new shape and position for first 6 weeks. After 6 weeks there is no need any more for supportive application.
In preschool age I prefer to make supportive dressings which will be changed every three days for three weeks and continuing with tennis headband for another three weeks. In young and adult age, I prefer to apply tennis headband at the end of the operation to stay days and night in first 3 weeks, only nights in second 3 weeks.
There may be pain and throbbing in the ears for first two days. However, this stage can easily be passed with the help of medical treatment. Young and adult patients may return to their daily life in a week, but children need to be in close observation for 3 weeks.
What are the risks of this surgery?
As with any surgery, bleeding and infection is a complication in this surgery. While pressured dressing will prevent bleeding, post-operative antibiotic treatment prevents possible infection. Even if it is not highly seen complication, recurrence of the prominence may occur. In this case re-operation is always an option.
